EXECUTIVE BOARD • 1-YEAR TERM • VOTING POSITION
The Head Cheer Advisor plays a crucial role in the organization, combining expertise in competitive dance, strong leadership qualities, and effective communication skills to shape the success, development, and positive experience of the cheer program and its participants. This candidate will bring extensive background and knowledge in competitive dance, providing expert guidance and instruction. The Head Cheer Advisor ensures comprehensive training in techniques, conditioning, and sequential fundamentals, fostering growth and skill development. They also foster positive relationships within the community and other organizations.
The Head Cheer position is a 1-year term that requires an individual with a strong background in competitive dance and a passion for cheerleading. This is a voting position, and the Head Cheer will play a vital role in overseeing all cheer operations within the organization.
Requirements
The position requires the following:
- CPR Certification
- Federal Background Clearance
- MBYFL Cheer Clinic
*Both certifications must be obtained at the beginning of the season, and the associated costs are the responsibility of the individual.
Qualifications
The position requires the following qualifications:
• Minimum of four years experience in competitive dance, preferably in Song Pom, to bring valuable expertise and knowledge to the position
• Awareness of the diverse range of cheer competitions and opportunities available to our cheer participants
• Strong background and knowledge in competitive dance, including choreography, technique, and performance
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with cheerleaders, parents, volunteers, and stakeholders
• Design and implement structured training programs for skill development, conditioning, and safety
• Familiarity with safety protocols and risk management
• Foster positive relationships within the local community
• Proficient in scheduling, budgeting, equipment management, and event coordination
• Genuine dedication to the cheerleaders’ holistic development and well-being
• Ability to handle conflicts and resolve issues in a fair and constructive manner
Responsibilities of the Head Cheer Advisor:
1. Attend board and booster meetings: The Head Cheer must be present at all board and booster meetings to provide updates, collaborate with other members, and contribute to decision-making processes.
2. Attend organizational events: The Head Cheer is required to be present at all organizational events, including football games, cheer competitions, parent events, and other related activities, from start to finish.
3. Oversee cheer operations: The Head Cheer will have the primary responsibility of overseeing all cheer operations within the organization. This includes coordinating practices, performances, and other cheer-related activities.
4. Provide instruction and guidance: The Head Cheer will instruct and educate coaches and cheerleaders on the rules, regulations, and expectations of the organization. They will ensure that all coaches and participants are aware of and adhere to these guidelines.
5. Conduct interviews and evaluations: The Head Cheer will conduct interviews and evaluations of potential cheer advisors, coaches, and Jr. Coaches. They will assess their qualifications, experience, and suitability for their respective roles within the organization.
6. Supervise and direct coaches and participants: The Head Cheer will supervise and provide direction to all cheer advisors, coaches, Jr. Coaches, and cheer participants. They will ensure that practices and performances are conducted in a safe and organized manner.
7. Conduct parent meetings: The Head Cheer will be responsible for conducting parent meetings to communicate important information, address concerns, and foster a positive relationship between parents and the organization.
8. Secure practice facilities: The Head Cheer is responsible for securing suitable practice facilities for cheerleading activities, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for practice sessions.
9. Collaborate with President and Player Agent: The Head Cheer will work closely with the President and Player Agent to oversee cheer roster binders and certification, ensuring compliance with league requirements.
10. Manage fundraising activities: The Head Cheer will manage all fundraising initiatives, including handling deposits and the distribution of funds related to the cheer financial activity account.
11. Coordinate uniform and gear ordering: The Head Cheer will ensure timely ordering of all cheer uniforms and season gear necessary for organizational activities throughout the season.
12. Register for camps and competitions: The Head Cheer is responsible for registering the cheerleading squad for camps and competitions, coordinating participation and ensuring necessary arrangements are made.
13. Hire dance choreographer and facilitate music purchase: The Head Cheer will hire a dance choreographer and facilitate the purchase of season and competition music, ensuring high-quality routines and performances.
14. Implement programmatic instruction: The Head Cheer is responsible for implementing programmatic instruction, focusing on sequential fundamentals, proper conditioning, and technique for all cheer levels.
15. Demonstrate leadership qualities: The Head Cheer should possess strong leadership skills, effective communication abilities, fairness, and high integrity to set a positive example for coaches, participants, and parents.
16. Evaluate cheer participants: The Head Cheer will lead efforts in evaluating all cheer participants during try-out week and throughout the season, assessing their skills, progress, and providing constructive feedback.
